I wasn’t required to be anywhere today until 11:00 am so I
gave myself the decadent gift of sleeping in and it felt marvelous. I missed breakfast and didn’t even care, it
felt that good. I finally dragged my
tookus out of bed in time to attend the Global Seminar class which all
students, faculty, and staff are required to attend. After a quick lunch, it was my turn to staff
the library. It was much quieter in the
library in terms of requests and materials needed so it was an excellent
opportunity to take care of a few things that had been pushed to the back
burner.
In the evening, we had a faculty/staff/ship’s crew reception
in the faculty lounge. The place was
packed and the decibel level was approaching hearing-loss levels. Obviously, everyone had a great time and the
captain and his senior officers were treated like rock stars. Many people were asking them to pose for
pictures and when they weren’t posing, they were swarmed by people wanting to
talk with them. They were very good
sports about it but it must be quite an ego trip for them.
After the reception, I attended an evening seminar on
“Photography at sea” given by the voyage photographer. He started the seminar with a montage of his
photos. They were absolutely gorgeous! He even took some of the photos with his
iPhone so he definitely has some mad skills.
He also provided information to us on how to use all of the various
buttons and doodads on our cameras so we have a fighting chance of taking good
photos too…I hope. We reach our first port in Peru day after tomorrow so we'll have our first opportunity to test our skills. Can't wait!
