First Full Day at Sea 🌊

Note: I’m having technical difficulties posting photos on the blog because of our internet (at least that’s my theory on why I can’t make it happen right now). I’m going to load photos to past posts once we get to Hilo and I have non-ship internet again.

What an interesting night we had after going to bed! The waves they were a-waving! The ship rocked from side to side the entire night with corresponding creaks and groans that made it sound like we were on an old-time wooden sailing ship. Every once in a while there would be a jolt and made us wonder what the heck was going on.  I’m happy to report, the ship is still afloat and we are now at 49° 59.81’ N and 129° 21.21’W, or for those of us not into the whole longitude/latitude thingy, 2,021.5 miles until we get to Hilo.

Mum told me she felt like she was a baby being rocked in a cradle. It was not objectionable (other than the mystery noises) and we are both incredibly fortunate to not be experiencing any seasickness. That wasn’t the case for some of the poor folks we saw at breakfast this morning. They were suffering! It was an interesting thing getting to breakfast because of the rocking of the ship. We were both rather unsteady on our feet and kept close to the corridor walls for support as often as possible. Once we got to the dining room, it was different matter. We, and everyone else, staggered around like we were three sheets to the wind (you like my nautical reference?!). Mum volunteered to get our orange juice and did a magnificent job getting back to the table with only a small spill on her arm. Tikki-Boo has mad skills! The breakfast options were amazing in their variety and I think we have a better idea of what to go for tomorrow morning for breakfast.

After breakfast, we went back to the cabin to load up for a morning of cribbage and reading. We found they have an actual card room on the fifth deck so we quickly claimed one of the tables and settled in for our first game. It was a close game and I beat Mum by one point! I took a picture of the occasion that I will  definitely share later!!! We started in on our second game when an older couple stopped at the table to ask if we played Bridge which is a big ol’ hell no (not that I said that out loud or anything) and then they noticed us playing cribbage. They knew how to play too so we invited them for a game of 4 hand cribbage which really changed the dynamics of the game. Mum and I partnered together while Ellen and John from Alabama partnered together. It was actually a lot of fun (she says in surprise). Mum and I won the first game, John and Ellen won the second, and we all agreed that we had to have a tie breaker game. Tikki-Boo and Wai-Kiki for the win, baby! Booyah!

Victory made us hungry so we made our way back to the dining room where we shared a table with 6 other people who really didn’t have much to say to each other. Lunch was good although we sat almost in the main pathway of the dining room which didn’t make it a relaxing experience but it was excellent for people watching. After that we went back to our cabin to read and I immediately took a 2-hour nap. It was glorious but I think I’ll be paying for it tonight.

We decided to head to the dining room for dinner at the later seating and took the time to get all gussied up! The cruise decided it was “Evening Chic Attire” night for dinner which according to our daily bulletin means glamorous and sophisticated. We did our humble best and will definitely post a picture at the first opportunity. We were seated in the same section as last night which meant we got the same waiter and sommelier. The sommelier, Sachin, did not disappoint. Rather than acting stressed like last night, he was totally relaxed and singing songs as he would go by our table. He’s a hoot! Not sure he meets the Celebrity Cruise standard of professionalism but I am a huge fan. Dinner was excellent again - Mum had Teriyaki Salmon and I had Steak Diane. So good! During dinner, one of the staff members stopped by our table to give us a sales pitch for a special dinner tomorrow night where they project a show onto your individual table top of a tiny little chef making your dinner. I was immediately sold on it and gave Mum some serious puppy dog eyes to convince her to agree to the experience. I have to admit that as the youngest of Mum’s offspring, I know how to employ the puppy dog eyes!🥺 And I was successful (the baby of the family scores again). I’ll have much to report tomorrow.

In the meantime, it’s back to the cabin for pajama time and reading. We are living our best lives 😍

Toodleloo until tomorrow

xoxo
