Everyone has really been dragging today. All of our energy was expended yesterday in Hawaii so their hasn't been much pep on the ship. I made the grievous error of staying up until 12:30 so that I could watch the ship push off from Hawaii and see the city fade into the distance. One of the really cool things about arriving and departing from harbors is to see the harbor pilot get onto the ship. A harbor pilot is specially trained to come onto the vessels and act as the captain in order to guide the ship through the intricacies of the harbor. The pilots get on the ship by bringing the pilot boat right up to the ship and then grabbing hold of a ladder on the ship and climbing up. It's fascinating to watch and I'm in awe that they don't fall into the water.
The sea has been very calm today without any of the horrific waves that we were told to expect. Thank you, lord jesus! I still have my anti-seasick patch firmly in place and it isn't going to be taken off until absolutely necessary! I'm not going through that misery again.
I've been attending the Global Studies class in the morning because it is mandatory for everyone - students, staff, and faculty. The faculty take turns giving presentations about certain countries. They have been quite good because the teachers personalize it and tell stories about their time in these countries. I consider myself lucky that I don't have to take the tests the way the students do, we only have to attend each lecture.
Usually I close up the library at 11:00 but tonight I'm having two of my students close it up. This makes me very happy. These late nights are taking a toll on me. So even though it's only 8:30 pm I'm heading off to bed. Hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend.
