Road Trip Day 11
November 20, 2024
Last day of epic mother/daughter road trip! It's been an amazing adventure with two of my favorite people.
We had a six hour drive in the rain today plus a stop in Hillsborough, N.C. to visit my cousin, Elaine O'Neil and her husband Glenn. Lainie is a gifted artist who uses fabric to create her art. She and my mother have a mutual love affair with fabric so Mum was eager to see her workshop. It's always wonderful to see Lainie and Glenn. If you have a minute, check out Lainie's website at elaineoneil.com
It was a quick visit as we were eager to get to my house. Terry did an amazing job of driving for the entire trip. We were in good hands with Thelma Lou at the wheel.
Along the way, we put together a list of highlights for the trip:
1. Total miles traveled: 2,273.9
2. Number of states visited: 8
3. Number of state license plates spotted: 39
4. Southern foods experienced: Fried okra, fried green tomatoes, collard greens, muffulettas, beignets, Poboys, wonder bread with bbq sauce, banana pudding.
5. Favorite picnic area: Oak Mountain State Park in Alabama
6. Favorite highway and best maintained: Alabama
7. Quietest/creepiest city: Montgomery
8. Noisiest city: New Orleans
9. Quirkiest attractions: Largest frying pan + Buc-ees
10. Number of cribbage games Mum/Meanie Pants won: too many to count
11. Number of alligators spotted: 1
12. "Did you know?" fact witnessed on this trip: crows can catch fish out of the water
I'm grateful for this time with my mother and sister and the fact that we have now visited 50/49 states is a lovely perk of the trip. We are looking forward to Hawaii now so stay tuned. With love from

Kathiy, I loved your most insightful and entertainig road trip blog! The daily descriptions and photos made me feel like I was there with you (not in the windy tent though)! And now Terry won't have to spend her precious time answering "how was your trip, what did you do"! Look forward to your next outing.
